Abdullah Tamo

Singer, coach, facilitator and weight-lifting champion

Abdullah was born and grew up in Qamishlo in NE Syria. At the age of 16 Abdullah had to flee the war with his family to an Iraqi refugee camp where he lived for six years. In Iraq Abdullah worked as a sports coach, a facilitator for Youth/Child Resilience and raising positivity with parents and families in the camp. As a wheelchair user, Abdullah is expert at overcoming challenges – both physical and mental. In 2012 he was winner of the Disabled Weightlifting Championship in Iraq. In 2019, one month after getting married, he was resettled in Malvern, leaving his wife behind. Abdullah had to wait three years before seeing his wife again and they are now reunited.

Since moving to Malvern Abdullah has performed as part of Colwall Requiem for Peace and in Malvern Welcomes events supporting refugees around the region. He has recently qualified in IT and currently works as a sports coach at Great Malvern Primary School.
